New TD Bank a Convenient Stop for Locals and Visitors

By Melissa Duchan

The new TD Bank at the corner of Atlantic and Boerum makes life around Atlantic even more convenient. The bank fills in a prior gap in coverage which forced residents to walk to either Carroll Gardens or Borough Hall for TD services. With the addition of this new location, TD customers in the area no longer have to walk long distances just to deposit a check or withdraw cash. It is especially convenient for workers and business owners on Smith Street’s retail corridor.

The bank heralded its arrival on the avenue with a grand opening party on July 15. The event featured stilt walkers, balloon artists, accordion players, and an ice cream truck in addition to NYC’s beloved mobile food vendor, Wafels & Dinges. The reception in the neighborhood was very positive, and the event was extremely successful. There was a big showing from the local community, specifically TD’s nonprofit partners. Children enjoyed the entertainers and the free food.

TD usually features murals showcasing the history of the area at its branches, and this branch is no exception. The walls are plastered with murals based on photographs of Court Street from the 30s through the 50s obtained from the New York Public Library. Although the colors may be improvised, the artwork is by and large an accurate representation of what Court Street looked like many decades ago.

The bank is located at 252 Atlantic Avenue, between Smith St and Boerum Pl. They can be reached by phone at (929) 397-2387. The website is tdbank.com.
