Allen Boutros recently opened his new restaurant, also named Boutros, on Atlantic between Court and Clinton. The restaurant serves French and New American cuisine in an elegant neighborhood setting. Allen was originally in college studying to be an architect, but he longed to work with his hands. He switched to business management, graduated and later attended the French Culinary Institute. After completing his studies at the French Culinary Institute, he worked in restaurants in Bay Ridge, while dreaming of opening his own restaurant one day.
Allen chose Atlantic to make his dream come true because of his connections to the community here. As a child, he grew up eating and shopping at local staples like Fattoosh and Sahadi’s. Although the building needed work, Allen felt it had character and he fell in love with it. He took a very hands-on role in the arduous renovation process. The original flooring is preserved in the front, and Allen helped design and build the counters, and other fixtures.
The reception on the avenue has been great so far, with a steady stream of customers during the week, and busy weekends. In the four weeks that the restaurant has been open, some customers have already returned six times. Allen hopes to integrate in the neighborhood, and build up a loyal customer base in the immediate area.
