Perfect Family Day on Atlantic

We spoke with local neighborhood mom Joy Sinderbrand about her favorite family-friendly destinations to bring her family on Atlantic Avenue. Here are her top picks.

Floyd NY – A kid-friendly bar with full-sized bocce courts, couches and TVs. The kids can play board games on the coffee table while you’re having a beer, just like in the old neighborhood.

Mini Max – If you decide that a fun-filled weekend is no excuse for a messy head of hair – it’ll distract from the Manhattan skyline in the family photos – stop here for a quick cut and a toy before visiting Brooklyn Bridge Park or the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Time your visit with their weekly story time (see their website for timing, www.minimaxnyc.com).

Chip Shop Pub – The thought of deep fried pizza would make a real Brooklynite turn over in their grave…but it turns out to be a surprisingly good take on the classic slice.

two8two Bar and Burger – Not everyone in NY can have a backyard, let alone space for a BBQ, so the wooden picnic tables in the garden of this burger joint are like the neighborhood’s collective backyard.

New York Transit Museum – Our family never gets tired of visiting the vintage subway cars and the museum has special events and kids’ activities most days of the week, included in admission. This museum is much better than its diminutive Grand Central counterpart.

soccer

Upper 90 – A great stop for soccer lovers, there’s even an indoor kid-sized field for trying out gear before buying. Hang out with fellow fans on the bleachers to watch some of the best games on their big screen and enjoy free refreshments at halftime.
